Spotify Unveils a New Hub for Netflix Soundtracks, Playlists and Podcasts

Spotify Unveils a New Hub for Netflix Soundtracks, Playlists and Podcasts 2021

Music streaming service Spotify has announced a new Spotify-branded hub inside its mobile app specifically for Netflix content, including soundtracks from top shows and movies, playlists curated by Spotify based on Netflix favourites like “Stranger Things 2” or “The Crown,” plus podcasts from within Netflix’s library of original programming.

This hub also features Spotify Original Podcasts created exclusively for Spotify, giving users more ways to access some of Netflix’s most popular entertainment around the clock.

Netflix joins other streaming services that have their own Spotify hubs built into Spotify’s main mobile app, including Hulu, HBO Now and SiriusXM. Currently, this feature is available only in the Spotify iOS app and Android beta – it won’t be coming to Spotify’s desktop app or Spotify apps on other platforms like Chromecast, Apple TV and smart TVs. Spotify users will be able to access Spotify’s Netflix hub in the Spotify iOS and Android apps from June 30.

What is Wi-Fi Calling? How to Enable it

This Spotify-Netflix integration comes at a time when Spotify is growing rapidly, with nearly 80 million subscribers – including 41 million premium subscribers – across 60 markets worldwide.

In addition to Spotify’s new Netflix hub, Spotify also claims that it has commissioned more than 1,000 original podcasts exclusive to the service. This includes upcoming shows from partners like WNYC Studios (“Heavyweight”) and Gimlet Media (“Kingdom & State”), along with shows that have already been released such as “Brian Posehn: 4 Hours To Kill,” “Broken Record” and “Ann Heppermann: The Cook And The Chef.”

Spotify’s Spotify Original Podcasts will launch across Spotify for iOS and Android and Spotify Podcasts on Spotify Web from June 30.

Regardless of what device you’re using, Spotify recommends that you use the Spotify app v5.9 to access the Netflix content in Spotify’s hub.

The Spotify app 5.9 updates will be rolling out over the coming weeks to Spotify on iOS, Android, Windows, Mac and Spotify Connect devices. Spotify is also offering a “Spotify Premium Preview” for customers in the U.S., Mexico and Brazil which includes access to Spotify’s Netflix hub of curated audio content from June 30 – September 9 at no additional cost.*
