With all of the current discussion regarding privacy issues, Google’s name keeps coming up since they heavily rely on data, and MicroG counters the case. Android users have access to almost all of their personal information depending on their device use. Some individuals, mainly those concerned about their privacy and security, may be put off by this. You have some control over the personal data that Google collects and uses, but what if you desire complete control?
Installing a custom ROM on your smartphone is one of the most effective methods to have total control over your device. A custom ROM does not include Google’s core applications (Gapps), but you can often restore them by installing the Gapps package from a different source. In contrast, if you want more freedom and privacy, you may ignore the Gapps package and use MicroG instead.
Keep in mind that many applications rely on Google Play Services to function correctly; otherwise, there would be no purpose in having them installed on your Android device. MicroG injects a customized version of the essential Google services needed by most programs, but without all of the trackings associated with having a Google account. This raises your degree of privacy while also having the potential to boost battery life.
Step 1- Ascertain That Your ROM Is Capable of Signature Spoofing:
Almost all custom ROMs provide signature faking as a default feature, which may be exploited to trick the system into believing that the genuine Google Play Services have been installed. It is essential for the success of this whole endeavour. You may need to double-check the source of your custom ROM to determine whether it supports signature faking for MicroG in the first place before proceeding.
Step 2- Leave the Gapps Installation to the professionals:
At this stage, you should have already selected a custom ROM that you want to install onto your device, and it should have support for signature faking functionality as well. To restore Google services to your smartphone after flashing a ROM, as previously stated, you would typically install a Gapps package after the ROM was flashed. However, to take advantage of MicroG, you must ensure that you do not install any Gapps packages while following this instruction.
You should flash the custom ROM again and erase the data to be safe in case you accidentally installed Gapps by mistake (it’s second nature to do so). After you’ve taken care of that, boot into the operating system and check to see that none of the Google applications or services is available before proceeding to the next stage in the process.
Step 3- MicroG for Your Device Install MicroG for Your Device:
Before this release, you had to download several individual programs to get the complete MicroG bundle to function correctly. On the other hand, Nendoroid has come along to make things easier by providing a single ZIP file that can be flashed directly into a custom recovery, such as TWRP. Also included is an updated and more convenient Magisk module that is ideal for root users everywhere. There is no way to go wrong with either strategy!
It doesn’t get much easier than this for those of you TWRP users out there who want to keep things as simple as possible. Installing NanoDroid with MicroG built-in in couldn’t be any simpler. To begin, click on the “Download” link provided below and save the file to your Android phone’s internal storage by selecting the “Download” folder from the menu bar.
Once you’ve downloaded the file, you may proceed to boot into recovery mode and go to the TWRP main menu. Once you’ve selected “Install,” go to the directory where you’ve saved the NanoDroid file and press it once, then push the slider to the left to begin the installation. After completing the installation procedure, you may reboot your device and proceed to the next step listed below.
For root users, developer nift4 (formerly known as Hieu Van) has created a customised Magisk module that allows them to do their tasks without depending on TWRP or any other system. Follow the simple steps outlined here to get MicroG up and running on your computer using Magisk.
Open the Magisk Manager app to the main screen, choose the “Menu” option from the menu bar on the left, and select the “Downloads” option. By selecting the search icon and entering the phrase “micro,” the needed module should appear as the sole item on the list as soon as the search is completed. To get started, click on the download arrow once and then “Install.”
Step 4- Give the Appropriate Permissions:
Go to your app drawer, find the Micro G app, and then tap on it to bring it up on the main screen. You may get a message at the top of your screen informing you that you need to allow rights to the app. When you get the message, touch “Request Missing Rights” and then grant the system’s permissions. If you don’t do this, your applications will not be able to access the updated Google services, which defeats the point of MicroG in the first place.
Step 5- Take the Self-Assessment Test:
Using the MicroG app, go to the “Self-Check” area at the top of the screen and check your answers. Ensure that the first checkbox is selected if your ROM enables signature faking, as described in Step 1 of this guide. If everything seems in order from here, the message “System has signature spoofing support” will appear.
You should also see that almost everything else has a checkbox now selected, which is precisely what you want to see. If you see an error notice that states, “Your ROM do not have native support for signature spoofing,” then you must start again from the beginning. To proceed, you’d need to do a bit more googling and locate a custom ROM that does enable signature spoofing.
Without signature spoofing, your experience will be less than satisfactory. Thus it would help if you had a modified ROM that supports it. If you still can’t figure things out, consult the ROM’s documentation, contact the developer, or even turn to the community for help. Instead, you may flash a ROM and run the Self-Check test to find out in seconds whether or not your device is compatible. Once your customized ROM has passed the test, you may proceed to the next stage in the process.
