It’s true, the Huawei nova 9 is making its way to Europe, exactly as the rumours had suggested. At this moment, the nova 9 Pro will not be a part of it. A variant with 8GB and 128GB storage costs EUR 499; preorders begin today, with official sales later this month. In the end, we merely attended the announcement event and got to use the phone for a short period. Since September, Huawei’s nova 9 and nova 9 Pro have been available in China, so we are already acquainted with them. Despite their differences, the two phones are, as the expression goes, “cut from the same fabric.”
You will notice the differences for yourself, but the fact that the lineup is so well-segmented is encouraging. While the nova 9 Pro has a smaller 4,000 mAh battery, it has a quicker 100W charging port, a more comprehensive ultrawide selfie camera, and HDR10 compatibility on display. However, the show and, of course, the device size make the most impact.
There is a 6. 57-inch 1080 x 2340-pixel display in the nova 9’s 175-gram, 160 x 73. 72-inch screen with a resolution of 1236 x 2676 pixels and a size of 163. 4 x 8 mm and 186 grams characterize the nova 9 Pro. It’s worth noting that the larger Pro model has a beefier cooling system, including an internal vapour chamber and graphene cooling.

Before a complete review, we will not tell you how big of a difference the Snapdragon 778 4G chipset makes in terms of performance or in-hand comfort. Regardless, the nova 9 Pro will not be available in Europe at this time. Thus customers are left with no options. We will speak to both the nova nine and nova 9 Pro in this evaluation since they are so comparable.
The nova 9 employs the Snapdragon 778G in a 4G-only configuration and does not feature Google Play Services, even though it is available in Europe. Before we get into the specifics of the phone’s performance, let’s clear up some misconceptions. Both things are connected as far as the geopolitical atmosphere and ties between the United States and Huawei.
Because of its unique rear-facing design, the nova 9 stands out amongst the sea of other smartphones on the market. With the accent ring surrounding the primary 50MP camera, the camera island stands out. In terms of colour, it’s a good balance of eye-catching and upmarket.
The Chinese nova 9 and 9 Pro initially came in black, blue, green, and violet colours. On the other hand, European buyers may choose between Starry Blue and Black for the mobile. In the black colourways, the finish has a distinct frosty appearance. Including the word “nova” on the back is a fun touch that does not go overboard with the silliness.
It looks like Huawei left it off of the black mobiles’s official images to make it even more discrete. On the other hand, the black unit still had the nova logo on it, which is noteworthy. To fit the curving glass that folds into it, the sides are relatively thin.
It has a sleek, contemporary appearance and is easy to use, with the main drawback being the tiny buttons that result from the lack of available space. Because of the frame’s flat top and bottom, it has a very contemporary appearance. In the future, it’s startling to see how similar the ordinary nova 9 and the nova 9 Pro seem from the front. The nova 9 is an exception to this rule.
There’s a lot of curved glass on the front of both nova 9 variants, which enhances the overall design but is not for everyone. The selfie camera notch is perhaps the most noticeable change between the two models. Despite the nova 9 Pro’s notch housing two cameras and being larger overall, the cutout itself is smaller than the nova 9, making it less noticeable. This is something we cannot say for sure until we have used the Pro. The vanilla nova 9’s selfie punch hole is a little more giant, but it’s not too large. The overall appearance is one of sleekness and modernity.
Build and Materials:
The “sandwich” design is used by Huawei. A plastic frame separates the rear and front curved glass panes in this example. The entire structure is fantastic in both appearance and feel. There’s hardly any give in the plan at all. However, ingress protection is notably absent from both the nova nine and nova 9 Pro. There isn’t an IP rating in the official sense.
Controls and Connectivity:
The control arrangement of the mobile is relatively conventional. On the right side of the frame, you will find the volume knob and power button. In any case, pressing the controls is a pleasurable experience because of the good tactile response. The crimson accent strip on the power button is a nice touch, even though it is perhaps pointless. The nova 9’s left empty. The nova 9’s sole speaker is located at the bottom of the device. It’s worth noting that neither the nova nine nor the nova 9 Pro come equipped with stereo speakers.
The lack of a headphone jack is also disappointing. The mobile has a fingerprint scanner built into the display. The optical reader seems to be the same on both phones. The Snapdragon 778G chipset also powers a bevvy of radios. The FastConnect 6700 from Qualcomm is to thank you for this. The Snapdragon 778G is traditionally a 5G-capable chip because of its internal X53 modem, which brings us to the elephant in the room. The Huawei nova 9, on the other hand, can only connect over 4G/LTE. Since the nova 9 and 9 Pro only have 4G LTE, the tense US-Huawei relations and US-China relations are to blame.
The vanilla Huawei nova 9 has the same internals as the nova 9 Pro, which is terrific news for customers. For example, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G there, but it’s only suitable for a 4G connection. It’s a cutting-edge chip with cutting-edge connectivity, and it was created using TSMC’s 6nm manufacturing process.
This processor has previously shown itself in other phones, including the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE, the Realme GT Master, and the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G in terms of RAW performance and battery durability. Although we haven’t seen how long the 4G-only model’s battery lasts, our hopes are relatively high. The battery of the nova 9 is respectable at 4,300 mAh and charges at 66W.
For the sake of comparison, we’ll point out certain internal variations between the nova 9 Pro and what was announced in China. The cooling mechanism on the Pro model seems to be more robust than on the average Nova 9, with a vapour chamber and graphene cooling included. As a result, performance, especially long-term performance, might be influenced. It also helps offer the Pro’s faster 100W charging while controlling the resulting heat.
The Pro, on the other hand, has a battery capacity of just 4,000 mAh. As far as we can tell, the nova nine will be available in Europe with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that cannot be expanded. The 256GB model was not mentioned at the presentation. However, it may be available later.
